Our Mission

Bear’s Equine Apparel’s mission is ever growing.

We look to bring informative resources, supplies, and relatable material for aspiring equestrians to aid, encourage, and reassure them on their paths through life with our beloved equines. We know life with equines is no easy feat, so we find it of utmost importance that equestrians are as ready as they can be going into the world of equines, whether that be to buy one of their own or, simply, for riding lessons; we look forward to supporting your equine endeavors.

However, we also find it critical to give back and support our partners, horses and equines of all types. A percentage of our profits will be donated to reputable equine charities across the globe.

Our Story & The Reason Why (Behind Bear's Equine Apparel)

Originally, Bear’s Equine Apparel was just going to be a simple equestrian fashion store carrying products for life outside the barn or comfy loungewear; apparel designed with an equestrian’s love of horses in mind, yet still something that could be worn out to the local mall. However, that quickly changed and Bear’s equine Apparel began to evolve into something much more meaningful and significant in Natalie’s aspirations than just a simple apparel shop.

Natalie grew up with a love for equines, but unfortunately, they were too expensive for her to experience. She had nothing to satisfy or fulfill that desire to be around the beloved animals, so the best she could do was fill her time playing horse games and pretending as though she were in that world with them. Eventually, however, games were just not satisfying enough.

She mourned over a life she could not live. Horses were always going to be too expensive and unrealistic to be in the picture. It felt as though it was a waste to have such a passion or an animal that would not fit into the grand scheme of things. Yet, she still found herself collecting horsey figurines, spending hours escaping reality through horse games, and, when she laid down to go to bed, she always prayed for that animal she so desperately wanted… a horse. As much as she wanted to, she could not escape her love for the animals.

Time went on and Natalie’s passion for equines continued to grow, then came high school. In her junior year she began looking for jobs when she came across something that made her heart jump… A position working at a horse farm. If she worked a certain number of hours per week she would receive lessons in return. She applied and she was accepted. She began working a few hours a week and riding consistently for the first time in her life. Horses were finally a part of her reality.

Except, lessons weren’t enough. What would it cost to buy a horse of her own? She began obsessively researching, making spreadsheets, and budgeting the cost to purchase and care for a horse of her own. She crunched down hours and broke it down into how long it would take her before she could purchase a horse. She realized owning a horse was possible. After years of thinking she would never have a horse of her own, or even ride, it now seemed possible. She moved to a paid position.

Months went by and Natalie continued to save and research, but the itch to start looking at horses became unbearable, so she gave in– she began scrolling through horses listed for sale. She researched and researched, but her heart seemed set on one type of horse in particular… The off the track thoroughbred. She couldn’t stay away from them. No matter what she did, what horses she filtered out, she always came back to the one horse she should not get. An off the track thoroughbred.

One day while scrolling, she found a thoroughbred that wasn’t necessarily appealing to her eye, nor at all what she had wanted, yet, she couldn’t stop looking at him. He was not a horse for her. He hadn’t been restarted since the track, but she was fine with that, she had the resources… or so she thought. She asked her mom if they could go view him, and next thing she knew she had scheduled a date with the seller.

Natalie anxiously awaited that date. She was overwhelmed with excitement. Then the day finally rolled up and off they went to go look at that horse. When they arrived, she noticed the horse looked different than pictured. It was the same horse, but he was darker. He must have been clipped in the photos taken, clipped and with a bleached coat. This horse was a bay and specifically a shade of bay that Natalie adored. She went into the paddock with him and he was like a puppy dog, so sweet and so silly. Her and her mom liked him a lot, so… Natalie scheduled for a pre purchase exam and if he were to pass, she would buy the horse.

Next thing she knew she had bought her first horse, but it never really sank in what she had done or that a near lifelong dream had come true. What she didn’t realize… was that she had just bought an animal that would challenge her like no other. She would learn invaluable life lessons from this horse.

Natalie’s first horse, Koda, is the inspiration behind Bear’s Equine Apparel. After starting a YouTube channel to track her progress and her journey with equines and Koda, she began receiving comments from people just as passionate about horses as her. People that dreamed of owning a horse, but didn’t know where to begin. People that were living through that life without horses as Natalie had. A time that she felt so alone in, others were experiencing as well. So… then spurred the idea to try to help aspiring equestrians make their dreams reality, so there came Bear’s Equine Apparel. A store with a mission to aid equestrians on their journeys into and through the equine world.

However, we believe in getting into horses safely. Natalie bought a horse that could have had a dangerous, possibly deadly outcome. We want to reduce the chances of that happening over again and prepare equestrians as best as possible, so that when they go to buy their first horses, they can do it as safely and as responsibly as possible.

We hope that you will support us on this mission.
